What are NYU Dining Dollars?

As most universities NYU offers meal plans for students and employees. Each meal plan comes with a certain amount of dining dollars that can be used by swiping the NYU ID card at certain locations. Dining dollars have a dollar for dollar value. But Dining Dollars cannot be used for purchasing gift cards.

For example the meal plan 225 Flex comes with 225 meals that are paid for by swiping the NYU ID card. Each meal is one swipe. In addition to 225 meals (NYU ID card swipes) the 225 Flex meal plan also comes with $200 Dining Dollars to use in any locations on campus. This is additional money that can be used, for example, if you only have 2 meals (NYU ID card swipes) left but would like to get just one donut. In this case it makes sense to use dining dollars and not a swipe (meal). On the other hand, if you have a lot of meals (NYU ID card swipes) left, it makes sense to use the dining dollars for other useful items, such as personal care items that can also be purchased on campus.

And the best thing: Unused Dining Dollars automatically extend from the fall to spring semester if not fully used. But they do no roll over from one academic year to the next academic year.

But if all Dining dollars of a meal plan are used, members can purchase additional Dining Dollars in amounts of $15, $25, $50 or $100. Members simply have to log on to Meal Plan Portal and the amount will be deducted from the bursar account.

Meal plans and therefore dining dollars are also available for NYU employees who hold an NYU ID card. They have a smaller selection of plans (only 2) but it is available for full-time and part-time employees with a valid NYU ID card, which might be  a great option for people also living in the area of an NYU campus.
